How to add page numbers to a PDF
Give a PDF a visible numbering sequence using the export settings, then verify numbering against the final pages.
GuidesAlphaPDF’s Export settings include page numbers under Advanced. Add them after settling the document’s page order so the visible numbering can be checked against the file you intend to send.
Decide what the numbers should mean
A report assembled from several sources may already contain printed page numbers. Adding another sequence can help readers refer to the combined file, but it can also confuse them. Choose a clear position and format and explain which sequence your references use.
Review scope before exporting
The controls offer placement, format, starting number and page scope. A selected-pages scope deserves an explicit selection check. Do not assume a numbering option changes which pages the export includes.
Steps in AlphaPDF
- Open the document and finish any page additions, removals or reordering.
- Choose Export, expand Advanced and enable Add page numbers.
- Review the position, format, starting number and page scope. Inspect the visible preview for collisions with existing content.
- Choose the intended export mode, then save the output when an allowance is available.
Check the result
Check the first, middle and last numbered pages in the saved file. Confirm the sequence, any displayed total and placement. Inspect pages with different orientations or tight margins separately.
Page numbering does not automatically update a table of contents or references inside the document. Review those references yourself, and retain the source if you need to revise the numbering later.
Open AlphaPDF’s PDF editor to review the current controls, file limits and export allowance before starting.
