How to split a PDF into separate files

To split a PDF into separate files in AlphaPDF, mark the end of each section and choose Split into a ZIP in Export. The download contains the individual PDF parts; it is not one combined PDF.

Decide where each section ends

Make a short boundary list before editing. For an illustrative eight-page document with sections on pages 1–3, 4–6 and 7–8, the split markers belong after pages 3 and 6. The final section ends at the end of the document, so it needs no final marker. Use the actual page positions in your file, not a printed numbering sequence that may restart.

Split sections or extract a selection?

Splitting divides the document into sections. If you only need a few particular pages in one new PDF, use Extract selected pages instead. That avoids producing unwanted sections.

Steps in AlphaPDF

1. Open the split tool, choose Select PDF files, add the PDF and choose Open in editor.
2. Inspect the page rail. At each intended boundary, use Split after on the section’s final page. Review the active markers.
3. Choose Export, select Split into a ZIP and review the quality setting and marker count.
4. Complete the export when an allowance is available, then save and open the ZIP.

Check the result

Open every PDF part. Check its first page, last page and page count against your boundary list. Give each saved part a clear name if the recipient needs separate attachments.

The split tool currently supports up to 200 parts. Splitting selects pages; it does not remove sensitive information within a retained page. Export remains subject to the tool’s allowance.
